The founders and the Shark Tank pitch

James Brooks and Nathan Coleman presented The Elephant Pants in Season 8, Episode 18, which aired February 24, 2017. They asked for $500,000 for 10% of the company.

They accepted Daymond John's on-air offer of $500,000 for 17.5%. The pitch recap describes the stake as 15% equity plus 2.5% advisory shares. A February 27, 2017 report from the founders' university, RIT, independently names Brooks and Coleman and reports the total 17.5% stake.

What the conservation promise meant

RIT reported that the business launched in 2014 and donated 10% of net profits to the International Elephant Foundation, with approximately $127,000 donated at the time. Its range included harem pants, yoga pants, loungers, kimonos and jewelry.

Those details explain the appeal of the original brand: buyers were choosing clothing tied to a named conservation partner. The donation was based on net profits, not a claim that 10% of every purchase price went to charity. It is also a dated account, not a promise attached to a pair sold by an unrelated seller today.
